Lymphatic Therapeutic Massage
One of the increasingly common applications of this technique is post cosmetic surgery lymphatic drainage massage as a means of controlling side effects from procedures including face lifts, breast augmentation or reduction, “butt lifts”, tummy tucks and liposuction.

What You Should Know About Lymphatic Massage At Home
A few sessions of pre-surgery lymphatic drainage is also not a bad idea, as it can clear excess fluid and makes cosmetic surgical procedures easier for the surgeon. Many cosmetic procedures can result in excess lymph fluid accumulating in the body. Other than manually draining the fluid through a tube out of the body, lymphatic drainage massage is probably the most effective natural means of addressing common post-surgical lymphedema.
A few sessions of pre-surgery lymphatic drainage is also not a bad idea, as it can clear excess fluid and makes cosmetic surgical procedures easier for the surgeon.
Performing an effective lymphatic drainage massage requires special knowledge, training and experience. The therapist must understand how the lymphatic system works, both anatomically and physiologically, in order to move the fluid effectively.
One of the interesting (and ironic) things about this technique is that while it is extremely powerful, when it is performed correctly it actually feels incredibly gentle and relaxing.
The reason for this is because, unlike blood vessels which are cylindrical, lymph vessels are somewhat flat. Therefore, if the therapist presses too hard, it will flatten the vessels and the fluid will not move enough to “drain”.
One of the ways a client/patient will know that it is working is the common side effect of getting a dry mouth or dry eyes (if you wear contact lenses they should be removed prior to the session).
It is also common to have the urge to urinate before too long. You should always provide feedback about changes in your body to your therapist.
Another application of the technique is to help treat another more serious medical problem involving an excess of lymph fluid in the body due to a blockage in the system known as lymphedema.
Anyone experiencing lymphedema (or edema) should be in consultation with a physician, and a very highly trained lymphatic drainage specialist.
If you are experiencing any of the conditions discussed above, or are planning to undergo cosmetic surgery, please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss arranging for some sessions with one of our qualified lymphatic therapists.
We recommend planning this in advance when possible, as only a small number of our therapists are qualified to perform this specialty and we want to be sure to have someone ready for you.
If you are planning a cosmetic procedure such as liposuction, do not wait until you are already suffering from the uncomfortable swelling symptoms before seeking treatments.
You may also want to consider budgeting for lymphatic drainage massages ahead of time, as you may need as many as ten or more sessions. Body Well has discount packages available which are perfect for this kind of bodywork.
Normal one-time rates for the service start at $114 for a 60-minute session in your home.
