Can Massage Therapists be “Ambulance Chasers”? And is this a Good thing

Let’s change that.

Dear Body Well friends, clients and colleagues:

Did you know that if someone in Florida is injured in a car accident, they are eligible to receive in-home massage therapy that is paid up to 100% by their auto insurance?

It’s true! In fact, auto insurance companies recognize Licensed Massage Therapists as legitimate providers of medical services, just like medical doctors and chiropractors!

So why all the ambulance chasing? Isn’t that for lawyers?

Florida law automatically provides every driver with at least $10,000 in medical benefits in case of an accident leading to an injury – no matter who is at fault.

With that much money in the pot, you can be sure that there is serious competition among medical providers – especially chiropractors and pain clinics (think 411-PAIN) – to retain these “valuable” injured patients and bill insurance companies for therapy and services rendered. In other words, treating injured patients is big business!

Yet ultimately it is for each individual patient to decide how they wish to use these valuable benefits to recover from injuries. My mission is to let people know that in-home massage is one readily available option, either alone or in conjunction with other therapies.

(To learn more about a comparison between obtaining massage services in a chiropractic/pain clinic versus in-home massage with Body Well, including a brief video message from me on this topic, please click here).

One key difference to keep in mind is that Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) cannot diagnose any injury or disease. So, if someone has been injured and believes massage would be helpful, he or she should see their primary physician and discuss a massage therapy prescription.

So go ahead – call me an “Ambulance Chaser”! Because I believe that once more people know about these insurance benefits for effective and convenient in-home massage therapy in the unfortunate event of an accident, the ambulances are going to be chasing us instead!
